Features:
-
Composition: DEF consists mainly of urea and deionized water, with a typical mixture of about 32.5% high-purity urea and 67.5% deionized water. This specific composition is essential for the SCR system's efficiency in reducing nitrogen oxide emissions.
-
Purity: DEF is produced to meet stringent purity standards. The urea used is of high purity to ensure optimal performance and avoid contaminating the SCR catalyst. Similarly, deionized water is used to eliminate impurities that could damage the SCR system.
-
Function: When injected into the exhaust stream of diesel engines, DEF reacts chemically with nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the presence of a catalyst (usually vanadium-based). This reaction converts NOx into harmless nitrogen (N2) and water vapor (H2O), greatly reducing emissions of nitrogen oxides, which are significant contributors to air pollution and smog.
